Milorad Čavić

Milorad Čavić is a retired Serbian swimmer. He was born in Anaheim, California and he went on college there. Since his parents are Serbian nationality, he also has Serbian citizenship. He is well know for butterfly style of swimming and he won numerous medals. He made appearances on 4 Olympic games, first one in Sydney in 2000 and last one in London 2012 where he finished his career. In 2008 Olympics in Beijing, he battled with one of the best swimmers ever, Michael Phelps, and he lost in 100m butterfly by a 0.01s. He won silver medal. Years after,a company that measured time admitted that they were maybe wrong and that the Čavić was probably faster than Phelps.
Čavić also made appearances in European Championship, where his results were great. In 2003 in Dublin on European Short Court Swimming Championship, he won the gold medal in 100 m butterfly and he set a new world record. He also won silver medal in 50 m freestyle. He defended his tittle in 2006, 2007 and 2008 in Rijeka, where he set a new European record. One more controversial thing happened in 2008 at European Championship, where Čavić won 50 m butterfly tittle, setting a new European record meanwhile, but he was disqualified by the European Swimming Federation (LEN) because he wore a T-shirt on medals ceremony that read "Kosovo is Serbia". At the end of 2008, he was declared the best Serbian athlete.
At the 2009 World Aquatics Championship, he finished second in finals, behind Phelps and they were the first two to brake under 50 seconds. In 2012. he finished fourth at Olympic games in London, and after that he retired.
He was such a good sportsman that Serbia had a stamp with his character on it.
