Dragan Dzajic - football maestro

Dragan Džajić is a former Serbian footballer who is widely considered to be one of the best Serbian footballers to emerge from former Yugoslavia. Regarded as a preeminent and very proficient left winger. Džajić has been known for his "great crosses and passes, unstoppable dribbling with great pace, natural technique and some of the best left footed free kicks ever seen". Džajić is viewed by some football experts as perhaps one of the most underrated players in European football, partly because he played in Yugoslavia. In December 2011 Džajić was named in being part of "the greatest European Championship XI of all time" by Goal.com.
He started his football career in a small town of Ub, near Belgrade, playing for the local club "FK Jedinstvo", where he was spotted by FC Red Star from Belgrade. He spent 2 years in youth team and at the age of 17, he played his first senior match against "Budućnost Titograd". He played 590 matches for FC Red Star and scored 287 goals, by winning 5 league titles and 4 domestic cups. He is considered to be one of the clubs most important players ever, and therefore he became one of five players that earned "Zvezdina Zvezda" status. He also made 85 caps and scored 23 goals for national team of Yugoslavia, playing in Euro Cup finals in 1968, which was his most notable result with national team.
He retired as a player in 1978 and he began performing a role as Red Star's technical director. In his first season in new role, club reached the UEFA Cup finals. He became club's president in 1998 and retired from that position in 2004 due to health issues. He was charged for corruption and transfer malversation in 2011, and all charges were dropped in 2012. He was reelected for Red Star's president in December of 2012.
